The first film in the My Hero Academia franchise, titled "My Hero Academia: Two Heroes," was released in Japan on August 3, 2018. It was directed by Kenji Nagasaki and produced by studio Bones. The plot of the film, set between the events of the second and third seasons of the anime series, revolves around Deku and All Might visiting I-Island, a man-made floating city developed exclusively for heroes, where they become embroiled in a terrorist plot.
The film received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, grossing over $20 million worldwide. It was later released internationally in selected theaters and on home video. The success of the first film led to the production of a second film, titled "My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising," which premiered in Japan on December 20, 2019 and was similarly praised for its storytelling and animation.
